Having trouble getting your Mercedes Benz to start? Don’t worry. This isn’t the end of the world. As the Virginia Water area’s Mercedes specialist, we’ve helped countless motorists get their vehicle back up and running. Many no start issues can be avoided by investing in regular car servicing (Mercedes servicing from HCL is fast and affordable, so don’t be put off coming in for it). Some are more significant, and can’t be put right with a car service, instead calling for Mercedes repairs.
On this page, we’ve run through three of the most common reasons for a Mercedes Benz not starting up, and looked to explain a little about our trouble shooting process.
The Battery isn’t Charged
Investing in regular Mercedes servicing at our premises near Virginia Water will reduce the likelihood your battery runs flat out-of-the-blue. But sometimes, if it’s been a long while since you came in for a car service, you forget to check-up on it and suddenly it’s dead. This is one of the most common causes for a no start. As any Mercedes specialist will tell you, Mercedes Benz vehicles need their batteries replacing every six to seven years.
We’ve known some Virginia Water Mercedes owners to use batteries for over a decade, but we’d recommend you avoid doing this. While you might just get away with it, you’ll increase the likelihood you’ll be stranded at the side of the road with a vehicle that won’t start, as well as the likelihood you’ll require potentially expensive Mercedes repairs due to associated automotive difficulties.
While most Virginia Water motorists can figure out they’ve got a flat battery without the aid of a Mercedes specialist like HCL Service Centre, it might be harder to test the fuses for your Starter Circuit, Fuel Pump, Ignition and EIS. If one has burned out, it may be stopping you from starting your engine. We’ll check up on your fuses during car servicing, to ensure everything is working as it should.
But if you’re struggling to start-up and your next car service is still a long way off, pay us a visit. We’ll be able to find the blown fuse, if this is the problem, and replace it (we’ll also find out why the fuse blew, to ensure there’s not a potentially dangerous issue at play that may call for immediate Mercedes repairs).
Faulty Gear Selector / Brake Light Switch
A Mercedes Benz Driver Authorization System refuses to allow cars to start if a brake light switch has become faulty. Signs that a brake light switch may soon go faulty might not be picked up on at a non-Mercedes specialist garage around Virginia Water. That’s why we urge you to use us for all your car servicing needs. We can pick out the problem early, before it causes a break down! Rest assured that replacing a faulty brake light won’t break the bank. The replacement parts themselves (we always use OEM parts) are rather cheap.
If you’re stuck in Park, then this is a good sign that the brake light switch is the issue, however it could also be down to a stuck gear selector. These problems are difficult to diagnose if you don’t know what you’re looking. A hint that the latter issue might be effecting your vehicle is if your gear indicator is malfunctioning, and not changing from P/R/N when you move the gear shifter.
But these are just three reasons why a Mercedes Benz won’t start. There are many others that only a Mercedes specialist will be able to identify. These include issues with:
Luckily, we won’t have to test for each possibility manually. We’ll employ the latest and greatest vehicle diagnostics tools to read your engine’s fault codes. These will tell us exactly what we need to do to get you back on the road! It may be you require certain Mercedes repairs or Mercedes servicing to get you where you need to be – whatever the solution, know we’ll charge you a fair rate that’s highly competitive among car servicing garages around the Virginia Water area.
